The Concept

Capsule strives to make every cryptocurrency transfer secure.

Whether you need to batch assets, password protect, or transfer gas-free, Capsule offers a safe manner of sending cryptocurrency on any blockchain.

Capsule is also known as ‘Packaging and Shipping for Blockchain,’ providing a cryptocurrency transfer experience that is as reliable and convenient as online package delivery.

The Story

The idea for Capsule blossomed from a tweet by prolific Bitcoin developer Jeff Garzik in 2021, speaking of a “transferable NFT, which can hold any amount of ERC20s and NFTs”.

Multiple founders teamed up with Web3 company Bloq to bring the project mainstream. I worked as CEO (2022-2024), and chairman (2022-) of Capsule.

At launch, Capsule gave users the ability to create Capsule NFTs (colloquially referred to as Capsules) — special “wrappers” that are able to store any amount of cryptocurrency tokens within them.

The applications are numerous, varying from blockchain-verifiable loot boxes to decentralized ETFs. Many users created unique Capsule NFTs, often attaching images to distinguish their packaged cryptocurrency.

The success of Capsule as an artistic vehicle led to the launch of Dollar Store Kids: a collection of Capsules where each procedurally generated Kid was packaged with one US Dollar Coin on the Ethereum blockchain. For more information on the immediate success and thrilling journey of the Dollar Store Kids, view the project article here.

Following Dollar Store Kids, Capsule released its first cross-blockchain collection: Ordinary Oranges.

Ordinary Oranges is a collection of 256 unique orange emojis inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain (inscriptions 67,060 to 78,860), tradable on Ethereum. This displayed Capsule’s unique ability to package and any cryptocurrency asset on any blockchain. For more information on Ordinary Oranges, view the project article here.

After two Capsule collection launches, the team refocused on improving the user experience: blockchain asset packaging.

The Capsule team introduced a new smart contract, the Capsule Post Office, to manage Capsule-transfered assets. The Post Office also allowed users to program any additional feature into asset transfer such as password protection, asset verification, and gas-free transfer acceptance.

Capsule then underwent a rebranding as ‘Packaging and Shipping for Blockchain,’ with the goal of providing a cryptocurrency transfer experience that is as reliable and convenient as online package delivery.

Currently, Capsule offers numerous features to users, including:

  • the ability to reroute a cryptocurrency transfer
  • programmable security for any blockchain transfer
  • digital asset pickup without dApp wallet sign-in
  • digital asset pickup without a cryptocurrency wallet
  • infinite extensibility for any blockchain use case
