The Story

February 2023 – Out of seemingly nowhere, Bitcoin went from a near-zero NFT scene to a hub for NFT collection and creation.

Ordinal Theory, a novel concept that allowed users to “inscribe” Bitcoin currency (satoshis) with images, text files, and even sounds, propelled usage of the Bitcoin network to new heights.

In NFT space, collectibility is key. And yet, because of the intense setup required, many people were unable to collect and trade Bitcoin NFTs. This led to a realization: if people were used to holding and trading NFTs on other blockchains, why couldn’t anyone make an accessible Bitcoin Ordinal collection?

Introducing, Ordinary Oranges, a collection of 256 unique orange emojis inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain (inscriptions 67,060 to 78,860), tradable on the Ethereum blockchain.

Ordinary Oranges launched on February 12th, 2023, promising users an Ethereum NFT linked to a Bitcoin Ordinal Inscription - in order to recieve the Bitcoin Ordinal, a user simply needed to “burn” the underlying NFT (a Capsule NFT) on the Ethereum Network to recieve its mirror asset on the Bitcoin blockchain. Details pertaining to each Bitcoin Ordinal Inscription can be found on the Ordinary Oranges website.

Ordinary Oranges were not just the advent of tradable Bitcoin NFTs on Ethereum. They also gave holders the ability to loan, collateralize, fractionalize, and even batch Bitcoin NFTs alongside any other tradable currency. In other words, Ordinary Oranges was a premier asset utilizable within any segment of Decentralized Finance (known as DeFi with the cryptocurrency space), on any protocol.

Today, Ordinary Oranges exist as collectibles, mintable on the Ethereum blockchain for 1 Ethereum on the Ordinary Oranges website.

“With this collection, users can integrate a historic Bitcoin inscription alongside any Web3 development. Lend, bridge, fractionalize, wrap, collateralize, and more, all under the widely adopted ERC-721 standard. Innovation has allowed us to map individual satoshi data content to the wider ecosystem. The implications of such are monumentous, and the expansion of Bitcoin and smart contracts are clear. It’s quite literally the future of finance. And Ordinary Oranges will be inscribed in that, too.” - Bitcoin Inscriptions on Ethereum: Ordinary Oranges
